My Summer 2017 in Malta

A lot of my summer 2017 wasnt’t spent in Malta, as I visited Prague, Amsterdam, Oxford and Cambridge, but today I’ll talk about a few snippets of the time spent in Malta. This summer was a hot one, with ‘heatwave Lucifer’ burning down on southern Europe, raising temperatures to the late 30s, feeling up to the mid-40s. I vowed to visit all the sandy beaches this year but think I actually dragged my ass there twice at most. I was going to swim every day and get super tanned (two more fails). But my summer was not just a summer of failures and instead ended up being one of my best in Malta yet.

Beaches Summer 2017 in Malta

For the second year running I went to spectate (only spectate, never play!) for the Slam Tilt volleyball tournament at Golden Bay. My friends and I headed up there super early in the morning to enjoy some breakfast on the beach before the sun got really hot and to find the best spot to watch the action in comfort.

Summer 2017 Sunsets

As always, I chased as many sunsets as possible. Work arranged an evening boat trip for the whole Malta office with food, drinks, dancing and a crazy beautiful sunset to top it off. It was nice to see most of the office come together in a way that we rarely get to and with such stunning scenery it was impossible not to remember just how lucky we all are.

I have a tendency to be incredibly lazy, so as much as possible I try and force myself to get up and head out for a stroll. With the days being so hot, dusk is the perfect time to pop those trainers on and go out to find as many photo opportunities as possible. This sunset in Msida was one of my favourites.

This summer 2017 in Malta, I was introduced to breakfast at the Marina Terrace cafe on Portomaso Marina. I already love this place for it’s cheap and tasty pizzas but had no idea their breakfast was so good. Start the day with one of my favourite views on the island and one of the most consistently good Eggs Benedicts I’ve ever had in Malta!

I’ve been living in Malta now for 7 years and have been renting all that time. This year I properly started to consider buying property in Malta. In the next 1-2 years, I hope to have a place to call my own but until that time, I will enjoy noticing the small details of other peoples houses. I fell in love with exteriors in Malta this summer. The often odd house names, the charming doors, the wide array of colours and the added greenery and nature wherever possible really captured my heart.

In summer 2017 in Malta, I met someone. Someone who changed everything. Someone who understands the important things in life and makes sure to remind me to order extra Nutella. A keeper.
